Rainbow Hills 9/5-7/08 The Best is Yet to Come
by Briauna McKizzie
On September 4th Glowing Heart found themselves heading towards San Antonio. As we drove through the night we eagerly anticipated the weekend and relaxed our minds by singing along with those lovely Disney princesses Belle, Ariel, and Jasmine. However, we didn’t realize that it was going to be a weekend that would involve unexpected changes and occurrences left and right. As the weekend progressed, we were constantly going to have to listen to the words of Aladdin when he said, “hold your breath….it gets better.”
The first unexpected thing that happened was the fact that we were originally supposed to be holding the D-now at a campsite, but instead we had to hold it at Rainbow Hills which is a church and school. At first, this was seen as somewhat of an obstacle but then as the weekend progressed everyone realized that we were right where we were supposed to be. It turned out to be a good thing that the kids were in a familiar surrounding because it made their transformations more real in that it was obvious that they weren’t just on a “camp high”, because they were still in their homes and at school. By being in a familiar surrounding it made their unfamiliar experiences with God that much more awesome.
Another unexpected occurrence was the fact that God made it to where the quietest member of Glowing Heart had to lead a group by herself. The nervousness that was felt was is completely indescribable. However, it is just another testimony to the fact that God can use anyone to bless and minister to His kingdom.
Hold your breath…it gets better.
Possibly the most amazing and unexpected thing that happened that weekend was the Saturday night worship. It started out as a normal worship night, with youth standing in the front with smiling faces and raised hands. However, all of a sudden the Holy Spirit began to move. All of a sudden people’s hearts all over the auditorium were being broken and completely put back together again. One particular boy prayed the prayer that all of us should constantly be praying for, and that was the prayer that our youth would be inspired to stand up for Christ. That night at Rainbow Hills, all of the youth were seen standing for Christ.
Are you still holding your breath?
Just when we thought we had experienced every glorious thing that God was going to do that weekend, the Master of Surprises did something even better. On our way home in the vans we were all talking and carrying on as though everything was normal. Then, one of the Glowing Heart leaders got a text from a young man in his group and it said, “I want to be saved. I just need to know how.” Immediately, the van was hushed as the young man was called and was encouraged and led to the feet of Jesus. Upon announcing his salvation all of us yelled with joy and marveled at how awesome and great our God really and truly is.
For the sake of your health, I strongly suggest that you begin breathing again. But remember this, you worship a mighty God who can do anything and will never be limited, and that is the lesson that was learned in San Antonio.
