First Baptist Church Searcy
by Elisa Hook
This previous weekend I had the privilege to serve with Glowing Heart at First Baptist Church Searcy in Arkansas. For several of us, this was our first real encounter with that state. I have to say, spending a whole weekend with a loving church, an amazing group of girls, and being a witness of God dramatically changing lives in such a short window of time was the best way for me to experience this place for the first time.
Right before the D-Now, all the Glowing Heart members and I were participating in Music Camp. I had wanted to find more depth in the word SACRIFICE so I decided to study it while we had our quiet times there. Through the study, God showed me that our calling to be living sacrifices (Romans 12:1-2) is our true spiritual act of worship. Worship is not just meeting together at a church on a particular day to sing, it is an ongoing sacrifice of ourselves. One definition of sacrifice is "the thing so surrendered or devoted". After being reminded of these things, God showed me that I needed to sacrifice my whole life and not just parts of it. I focused on the real reason God had me in Glowing Heart and at the D-Now. As an individual and as a group, our goal is not to give the best worship experiences to every person that comes to the services we lead, but it is to show others, by our actions and words, the true, Biblical meaning of worship: sacrificing everything for the Savior of humanity and His ordinances given. It was incredible to hear how much the youth and adults loved the worship. They said that they experienced true worship (some even said for the first time). The people that I shared this with will hopefully take it throughout their lives. I know that my girls were impacted by its definition; they were convicted and they knew they needed to be more devoted. I hope that it is something those girls will hold fast to. It is something I know I will continue to hold on to as I am in Glowing Heart and throughout my life.
God did amazing things that weekend. I hope to remember every detail. Many students opened up with us, several decided to devote themselves to Him again, and eight received Christ for the first time. All of this happened because of the work of the Holy Spirit, not because of us! "Not to us O Lord, not to us; but to Your name be all the glory because of Your love and faithfulness." Psalm 115:1
I'll fly away in the morning!
