Calvary Baptist Church
by Matt Meaux

This weekend was very special for me. Glowing Heart had the opportunity to travel to Ruston Louisiana for Calvary Baptist Church’s Disciple Now weekend. Brian Britt, the youth minister at Calvary, was my youth pastor for four and a half years at Friendship Baptist Church in Groves Texas. It was awesome to have this opportunity to see Brian and his family again, and it was quite special to be able to minister to his students now. This was a jam packed weekend with recreation, service projects, bible studies, and true, intimate worship of our Lord, Jesus Christ. We began the weekend in an unusual way, as our weekend recreation took place on Friday night rather than Saturday. We went to the intramural gyms at Louisiana Tech, for recreation where we played Ultimate Frisbee, and Indoor paint-less paintball called Re-ball. It was a blast, and provided us with a chance to bond with the students rather quickly.

The theme for the weekend was “Taking Root.” Throughout the weekend the students were challenged to root themselves in the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ, to grow in their relationship with the Lord, and to share with their friends the love God. Currently, Calvary Baptist Church is putting an emphasis on reaching the world through reaching one person at a time. Each member has chosen to focus on one lost friend and to communicate with them about their faith in Christ through loving on them. One of the jr. high guys actually invited their one to Disciple now, and that friend received Christ on Saturday night during the worship service! How amazing is that!? It gets better! Two other jr. high guys made a decision to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, and one more re-dedicated his life, and has committed to live his life for Jesus! But wait, there is more! Mattie Britt, Brian’s eight year old daughter, whom I have seen grow up and think of as another little sister, also became my sister in Christ! I’m still not finished! After such an incredible service Saturday night, the Lord still had plans the following morning. Sunday morning, during the second service, another jr. high student gave his life to Christ, and he wasn’t even involved in the d-now! He was visiting with his family and the Lord worked in his life! It was truly an awesome weekend, where 6 students took root in Jesus!

I am so blessed to be able to serve in Glowing Heart Ministries, and see the things that God does!

Pictures are best when seen with your own eyes!
