Georgetown Baptist Church
by Callie Barnett
This weekend was a special DNow to me because it was my home church! It is also a blessing
for me because we have three Glowing Heart members from Georgetown Baptist Church that are
in the group right now, so Georgetown is a very special DNow to me. We had a total of 91 kids
this weekend! That’s the most that Pottsboro has ever had! For those of you who have not been
to a Pottsboro DNow, let me just inform you that there is no DNow like the Pottsboro!
We started off the weekend with a rally to kick off the weekend and then broke into our host
homes for our sessions. I had the privilege to have the tenth grade girls and they were such an
amazing group! After the sessions we went to Midnight Madness! This is where we all come
together at midnight and play intense games for about two hours! It’s such a blast and it gives
us an opportunity to connect with our kids. The next morning we had breakfast and did more
sessions at our host homes until eleven when we met back at the church for more recreation!
Georgetown really loves recreation! It was so cool being on the stage and seeing the entire gym
packed with kids playing the games. After lunch we went to one of my favorite parts of this D-
Now and that is the service projects. My service project this year really touched my heart and
many of my girls as well. We had the wonderful opportunity to take fifteen kids from the local
homeless shelter to the skating rink to go skating! It was such a blessing to see those kids smiling
and laughing the entire time even when they were constantly falling. Believe me they fell a lot!
You could see the joy across their faces and it was so amazing to be a part of that.
The pastor had invited the entire congregation to come and worship with us on Saturday night
during the service the previous Sunday. The turnout of adults was great and really encouraging to
see so much leadership that the adults were showing to the youth. The Lord met us that night and
his spirit filled the room. We were all there for one purpose and that was to worship our heavenly
father as a body of believers. When it came time for the invitation so many students came down
to accept Christ as their savior and to let go of some sin that was tangled up inside of them. That
was a true blessing for me to see my home youth group coming together in brokenness and love,
lifting each other up, and encouraging each other.
We pray for the students that they will continue to keep the fire lit and be a strong youth group
that stays together when times are tough. We pray for the leadership of the church that they will
look to the Lord in every decision that they make and be good role models for these students in
the youth group. My God is not dead he’s surly alive and he’s living on the inside roaring like a
lion!
My God's not dead!
