Death Bringing Life
by Marty Garza

It is amazing how God works in our lives to guide us to the places that He wants us to be. I had no idea that I would be spending the weekend with the Glowing Heart Ministries, but God knew. MY plan for this weekend was that I would go to a funeral for my uncle’s father. But instead of spending my weekend surrounded by death, I spent my weekend surrounded by new life through Jesus Christ.

I was invited to go to this D-Now at 9:30pm the night before Glowing Heart was leaving. Normally I would not have been able to cancel work, church, and other things that I do on a weekly basis, but since I was planning on going to the funeral the doors were all ready open for me to have a free weekend. God placed on my heart a desire to go to the D-Now. It was only minutes later I found out I was not going to be able to go to the funeral as planned. Everything fell into place.

The Lord truly blessed me by allowing me to spend time with the Glowing Heart. I was able to witness God’s handy work as he moved through the lives of students. I cannot give the members of the Glowing Heart Ministries the credit for bringing these kids to new life, because that is evidence of God at work. But I can give the members of the Glowing Heart the credit for being willing, humble, empty vessels for the Lord. God used this group of young men and women to minister to these kids and give them the boost they needed in order for them to get back on the path to come closer to God and His plans for their lives.

I saw kids from the sixth grade to the ninth grade experience God in a way they have never experienced Him before. They showed evidence of giving themselves up to God by raising their hands, bowing on their knees, then standing in confirmation to surrendering their lives to God for the first time ever. Kids were crying in relief knowing there was a God who loved them and knowing that the same God was willing to forgive them of their sins. The kids came this weekend dead to Christ, burden to sin, and filthy from all that the world has thrown upon them. But now they are alive in Christ, free from sin, and cleansed by the blood from our Lord Jesus Christ. These kids were living through death for so long, but when they found out that Christ’s death could bring them life, they willingly died to their sins to live for Christ. A moving and powerful weekend doesn’t even come close to the words that can describe this experience.

Jumping for joy?

That was quite a stage we had ...
