A Rough Start and a Powerful Finish
by Heather Lamb

Well, I am currently sitting in a van, squished between two people, one of whom is probably almost unconscious right now, the other of whom is closely watching every word I type…. but no pressure. Seeing as though we have quite a drive remaining before arriving back to our dorms (or houses,) I have quite some time to reflect on the amazing things that went on this weekend.

I started off this weekend on quite a tragic foot. We were supposed to meet at the van at 6:45 a.m., but I woke up at 6:48 a.m. This, of course, is a dangerous thing, because it gets your heart pounding and your adrenaline going a little too fast for such an unheard of hour in the morning. But I, nonetheless, made it out alive, and about twelve minutes later, I was sitting on the van.

Now, although this weekend got off to a rough start at first, it immediately got better upon meeting my amazing group of sixth grade girls. We went back to our host homes, and over the course of the weekend, had the time of our lives. We engulfed a lot of chocolate, did cart wheels, and made a cardboard slide down the stairs. It was pretty much awesome.

Then there was the Saturday night worship service. There is probably only one word for that: INCREDIBLE. God worked in ways that can only be described as supernatural. I saw knees hit the floor and tears roll down cheeks as these precious kid’s lives were transformed by the moving and indescribable power of our Lord. I saw bondages being broken and chains being released. I saw those who came in broken and hurting, leave with joy and happiness, content in the love of their Heavenly Father. Many kids confessed Christ as their lord and Savior. Almost everyone was at the alter on this beautiful night. The only explanation for this is God. He can move the mountains, and He did in a sense on this incredible night.

I was so blessed to be able to be a part of this weekend, and a part of these kid’s lives. I can’t thank God enough for using me, despite of myself, for His purpose. We owe Him credit for every single thing that happened this weekend. I know that my life was touched in such an encouraging way, and I will never forget this powerful weekend.
