New Hope Baptist Church
by Sarah Hetrick
Going into this weekend, Henry asked the Glowing Heart members to pray for one specific thing that we wanted to see God do while we were at New Hope First Baptist Church. Since lately I've felt like I have been run down by sorrow and distress, I prayed that God would fill me with his joy this weekend and that our worship and time together with New Hope would be a joyful celebration of his love. Once again, God completely blew me away when he answered my prayer in a way that totally transcended my expectations. From the time that we got into the van to drive to Cedar Park to the very moment we left, I was absolutely overcome with delight and excitement. As soon as we met the students, I knew that it was going to be a great weekend. I got the chance to be with the senior and junior girls, and we all had a blast together. The girls were a really solid group and I was amazed at the unity and love between all of them, even amongst the two different grades. On Friday night we had a rally before going to the host homes, and I was so excited to be there praising God through song and dance. We had an enjoyable and relaxing time on Saturday morning and had a lot of fun dancing around and being silly before our sessions. The sessions were followed by a great conversation where the girls were able to ask any questions that were on their minds, and this opened the door for a lot of good discussion. After our sessions, our group launched into the project of making a Ready for Battle video, and with all of the seniors in our group, we were determined to win! The filming of the video was a very exciting experience, and everyone got quite a few laughs out of it. It was really neat to watch all of the girls work together in unity to create the video. Saturday night, I experienced even more fully the measure of God's joy. During the worship service, I was completely overwhelmed with joy as we sang so that at times, I couldn't help but jump because I was so thankful for who God is and what He has done. God reminded me in that time of how good He truly is and how much He deserves our hearts and our praise because of that. I left the service just beaming because I had been in the presence of God and had seen Him do incredible things in the lives of the students at New Hope. That celebration continued on Sunday morning when we found out that six students accepted Christ on Saturday. Once again, I was reminded that our God truly is mighty to save because He can eternally change the lives of young people. Altogether, this weekend provided a revitalizing and invigorating time that helped me to remember the joy we have in such a mighty Savior and the fun we can have in worshiping and celebrating Him.
