Oakwood Baptist Church
by John Kaneshiro

On the weekend of November 6, 2009, I was reminded of how God works through the weak and is able to multiply anything we offer to him. I can remember two years ago when I was last at Oakwood Baptist Church: the familiar faces, the sanctuary, and love of those out in Lubbock, Texas.

Upon arrival, we had to privilege to meet with Paul Bain, the new youth minister at Oakwood Baptist. Because of his encouragement and hearing his vision for the youth, I knew that Paul is an answer to prayer. We immediately began to hear about his passion for ministry and his heart for each and every individual student, by name. His goal wasn’t to crunch knowledge into these students. No, his goal was to follow the apostle Paul’s encouragement when we he stated we are alive in Christ in Colossians chapter two.

One thing I’ve come to learn within my time in Glowing Heart can be summed in a quote from our fearless director; “The students won’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” Through ministering with this mindset, I’ve been able to see the full potential of the high school guys at Oakwood. It amazes me even more to see God’s love through the very students we minister to. I have no doubt that God will continue to guide leaders within this youth group who will be undignified of the truth of the Gospel.

“Love is not affectionate feeling, but a steady wish for the loved person's ultimate good as far as it can be obtained”
-C.S. Lewis

We sure have a lot of pictures!
