November 2011 Live Embers
by Alexa Spence
Live Embers was an unusual experience for me. Going from student ministering to spending a Thursday with the people at Live Embers was a big contrast to what I've been used to. I was very nervous at first, because, honestly, I'm just not very comfortable with elderly. But one lady, Edith, invited me to play dominoes with her and a few of the other Glowing Heart members, and just like at a DNOW, I was excited to learn this game, and win it. Then at lunch, which by the way was really great, an older gentleman began to talk with me about my saxophone, and shared with me that his grandson also played. I enjoyed sharing stories with him about band, music, and even some troubles with my car. The interesting thing about hanging out with these people, was that even though I was there to minister to them, they actually ministered to me, just as well. Where I was once unfomortable, I was finding that I was completely capable of relating to these that have lived before me, and that God is just as much at work in their lives, as He is mine.
