The Church at Quail Creek
by Jerri Catagnus
This weekend I went along for the third time to help Glowing Heart with a D-NOW in Amarillo. It once again was another God-sized event that touched everyone involved. Every weekend that I have helped out with has been different in one way or another, and this one also had many positive differences. I helped lead tenth grade girls with Tiffany Browning and our group only consisted of two girls. The group of youth that turned out for the D-NOW was the smallest I have been involved with so far, but God stilled worked in huge ways. Friday night I felt like the youth were very distant and were not open to most of the leaders, and especially to their youth pastor Jodie. But once again, by Saturday night almost everyone was broken, and those who were not I know a seed had to have been planted. As I looked around during worship and after Henry asked students to stand according to their struggles, many of the students were standing. It broke my heart when several stood when told to if they had had thoughts or had attempted suicide. It opened up my eyes and shocked me that these youth were considering throwing away the gift of life that God had given to them because they did not fully grasp the depth of His love for them. Many of the youth had also not understood or overlooked the love that their youth pastor had for them. This all has lead to the youth group not being that family unit that many students wished it would be. By the end of the weekend many of the youth let go of those feelings and even publicly at the sharing time on Sunday apologized to Jodie. I hope that the youth group continues to grow closer now that we have left and that they can be that support system for each other and grow in Christ even more. I pray that God also can continue to work through people to help out this group as He did through Glowing Heart. Every single member allowed God to enter their hearts to show these students that neverending and overflowing amount of love that God has for them. It amazes me everytime how broken the students become. They are on their knees sobbing and letting go of that old self and accepting the life God wants for them, and always there is someone there that God places for them to lean on. No amount of words can describe the amazing work that God did this past weekend. Thank you Glowing Heart for allowing me to help out once again. It is such a blessing to be able to pour out to youth in this way.
